Reading Milestones

WHAT DOES READING AND WRITING LOOK LIKE AT EACH AGE & GRADE?

Milestones are specific skills that children should master at each age or grade. Literacy milestones build on each other. The milestones in each age or grade prepare students for the next grade and beyond.

Explore by age or grade level to find out what reading looks and sounds like at a particular age.

These literacy milestones are based on California grade level standards and are applicable for a child at any school. They are divided into Fall, Winter and Spring, to align with the three elementary report cards.
